Benchmark provides solutions for tackling the skills shortage

The question resonating through many businesses in the construction industry is, ‘How can we overcome the skills shortage?’  To tackle this issue, your business has a variety of staff management options available to it; and Benchmark can certainly be a feasible way for you to realise some of these.

How does your organisation get the most benefit from the knowledge of your people?  And how do you keep that knowledge if they leave you and move to another firm?   Benchmark’s libraries capture the intelligence of your employees, and allow this to be shared throughout your organisation.  You can use less experienced staff to create very good estimates in less time, which also frees up the extremely valuable time of your more experienced staff.  And if your senior employees move on, you have captured their valuable knowledge for the future.

I am also pleased to announce the next upgrade of Benchmark – which will shortly be released – can further enhance your ability to tackle the skills shortage.  When people ask me how this new version is different, and why the library system will now be far more useful, I tell them that t
he new Variable feature, and the new Calculator with automated Production Rate and Crew Size functions, will allow you to capture more of your employee’s knowledge faster.  With these new features you will develop smarter, simpler and more flexible libraries which can be called on for each estimate.  Making project specific changes will also become incredibly fast and easy with this new functionality.

When you read the above you might have the question in your mind, “That sounds great but how can we implement it for our company?”  The answer is that Benchmark can train your people so that they can put these things into practice for your organisation.  Benchmark’s New User, Advanced User, and Routine Writing Courses will greatly improve the capabilities of your employees so that they can create better estimates in less time.

If you think you need to know more about these things then you might want to contact one of our people.  Jamie is here at all times to talk to our clients about how to use the Libraries more effectively, Simon is happy to talk about how to assist you with training and Nigel is available to discuss the needs and requirements of all potential and existing clients.

I wish you all the very best at overcoming the challenges that we all now face during the skills shortage, and I hope that you are able to find value in the suggestions outlined above.

Yours, in the interest of better estimating,

Rob MacDonald
Director.
